Welcome to the website of Economics Department, one of the oldest Departments of Economics in Nigerian Universities. With the approval and establishment of ABU Faculty-Based Business School in 27th October, 2016, the Department became part of the ABU Business School alongside, Accounting and Business Administration Departments. The Department offers BSc. Degree in Economics at undergraduate level and MSc. and Ph.D. Degrees in Economics at graduate level. The programmes provide training for students who are interested in becoming researchers and working in academia, policy making space, or the private sector. The programmes are tailored towards advancing economic discourse locally and internationally. Therefore, our teaching philosophy is to encourage students to study local and global economic issues in depth and with independence of mind by; developing strong analytical skills and acquiring the ability to critically assess economic arguments. In essence, the Department aimed at being dynamic and competitive producing graduates with the best thinking and capacities for investigating and analyzing local, national and global socio-economic and policy issues. To achieve this, we opt for excellence in research and teaching and strongly believe in the tight link and integration of the duo.

The Department believes that its niche lies in providing a learning environment in which students acquire insights into competing economic theories, underlying values and methodology and to encourage students to study local and global economic issues in depth and with independence of mind by; developing strong analytical skills and acquiring the ability to critically assess economic arguments at local, national and global levels.
